Overview
CritiCal (“the app”) is developed by Strange Magic Apps. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data the app collects and how it is used.
Data Storage
All your data — events, reviews, notes, tasks, invoices, and documents — is stored locally on your device using SwiftData. When using a device that is logged into iCloud, your data is also stored in your private iCloud account.
We do not have access to your iCloud data. Apple’s architecture ensures that your data is encrypted and accessible only to you.
What We Collect
CritiCal does not collect personal data. Specifically:
- We do not collect analytics or usage data
- We do not track your location. Location-specific information (e.g. travel time estimates) is generated locally on your device using Apple Maps data, and is not shared with us. Location-based notifications are scheduled locally on your device and do not involve any external servers.
- We do not use advertising SDKs
- We do not share data with third parties
Some features that integrate with other data services on your device (e.g. calendar access, contacts access) require explicit permission. We only request permissions that are necessary for the app’s functionality. In some cases we may have to ask for more permissions than we actually need, due to limitations in the operating system’s permission model.
Third-Party Services
The app uses the following Apple services:
- iCloud (CloudKit) — for optional cross-device sync
- Apple Maps / MapKit — for venue maps and Look Around imagery
- WeatherKit — for event weather forecasts
- StoreKit — for in-app subscription management
These services are governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
RSS Feed Scanning
If you use Automatic Review Discovery (a premium feature), the app periodically fetches RSS feeds from publications you have configured. These requests are made directly from your device. No intermediary server is involved, and the feed URLs are not shared with us.
The requests to publication servers are not tagged with any identifying information. As with all websites, publishers sites may collect IP address and associated information. Check with their own privacy policies if you have any concerns.
Notifications
Push notifications for event reminders, task alerts, and review discovery are scheduled locally on your device. We do not operate a notification server.
Geofenced notifications (e.g. for venue check-ins) are also scheduled locally on your device, and do not involve any external servers.
Subscriptions
Premium subscriptions are handled entirely through the Apple App Store. We do not process payments directly and do not have access to your payment information. None of your subscription data is shared with us, and we do not use any third party services.
Data Extraction
You retain full control over your data. If you wish to discontinue using the app, you can export your data via the app’s export features (in Settings on iOS or iPadOS, or via the CritiCal menu on macOS). Exported data is provided as a ZIP file containing JSON files for data, image files for photo attachments, PDF files for generated invoices and all imported documents in their native formats.
Data Deletion
You can delete all your data at any time. If you installed CritiCal on a device that is not using iCloud sync, deleting the app will also delete its local data store.
When you are logged into an iCloud account, deleting the app will not be sufficient to remove all data from the iCloud servers. To ensure complete deletion, go to System Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Storage > CritiCal, and delete the app’s data from there.
Other information
Use of CritiCal is subject to Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement, which governs how you may use apps downloaded from the App Store. This covers lincence terms, usage restrictions, and liability limitations.
